Chadiza District serves as the administrative heart of Chadiza District in Eastern Province, Zambia. The district, with a population of 111,069 people as of the 2022 census, is a place shaped by deep-rooted tradition and steady ambition.
Established in 1949, the Council operates as a full Local Authority under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development. We are responsible for providing essential municipal services, supporting local development, and safeguarding the welfare of all residents across the district's wards.
From our Civic Centre on Pembamoyo Road, the Council coordinates infrastructure development, community services, and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), ensuring every investment speaks to the district's needs and long-term vision.
A high-value, agriculture-driven district with improved living standards for all by 2030.
This is not a slogan, it is the backbone of our Integrated Development Plan (2020–2030). It guides where we build, how we plan, and the future we insist on. We honour our past, but we build forward.
Chadiza is strategically positioned 35 km south of the Great East Road and approximately 80 km south-south-west of Chipata, the provincial capital. The district borders Mozambique to the south and Malawi to the east, with Katete District to the west and Chipata District to the north.
The town sits on a scenic plateau adorned with rocky hills, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and accessibility. This prime location makes Chadiza a gateway to Eastern Zambia and positions it perfectly between the middle Luangwa valley and the Zambezi.
Public resources must serve the public, not the privileged.
Every kwacha must show its footprints.
Results before excuses.
The community has a right to know.
Development must reach every ward, not only the ones nearest the tarmac.
The Integrated Development Plan (2020–2030) sets out what Chadiza must become:
Better roads, improved drainage, upgraded transport routes, and civic infrastructure that can stand the test of weather and time.
Investing in agro-value chains, farmer support systems, and small-scale enterprise development—the lifeblood of our district.
Classrooms, clinics, staff houses, water systems, and community amenities that lift living standards for every household.
Cleaner spaces, improved waste management, protected natural resources, and resilience against climate shocks.
Better systems, stronger oversight, improved community engagement, and transparency at every stage.
Chadiza is home to three vibrant chiefdoms that contribute to our unique cultural identity:
Each chiefdom brings its own traditions, customs, and languages, creating a harmonious cultural mosaic that is distinctly Chadiza.
The Council is led by dedicated public servants committed to serving the people of Chadiza:
Together with elected councillors and Ward Development Committees, our leadership ensures that decisions reflect the aspirations of the people and that development reaches every corner of our district.
