Chadiza District to Benefit from ZMW 8.1 Million Infrastructure Boost for Critical Crossing Points

Chadiza District is among the four districts in Eastern Province set to benefit from a Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development-funded project for the rehabilitation and construction of critical crossing points. The Ministry has awarded a contract worth ZMW8,173,600.51  to Mamot Investment Limited for this important infrastructure development across Lusangazi, Sinda, Katete, and Chadiza.

Under this contract, in Chadiza District, Taferansoni Bridge and Chamuntondo Crossing Point will undergo complete reconstruction, while Mangwe Culvert will benefit from both rehabilitation and new construction. These developments are expected to significantly improve accessibility in previously isolated areas, especially during the rainy season when many roads become impassable.

Speaking on this development, Council Secretary, Mr. Mumba David Mwansa, expressed satisfaction, stating:

“These crossing points are lifelines for our communities. Their development will dramatically improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities for thousands of residents.”

Chadiza Town Council will oversee the implementation of this Ministry-funded project within its jurisdiction as the Project Manager’s representative, working closely with the Provincial Principal Engineer to ensure high-quality construction that meets all required specifications.

This project is part of Chadiza’s broader infrastructure transformation efforts. The Council has already completed three labor-based crossing point projects through the Devolution Sector Account, which reinvests revenue from vehicle license fees collected by the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) into community development. Additionally, two new labor-based projects will commence next week, with three more crossing points under various stages of implementation through full contracts.

Upon completion, these eleven crossing points will create a well-connected network across Chadiza District, enabling year-round mobility and enhancing service delivery, agricultural trade, and economic activities.

Chadiza Town Council remains committed to improving local infrastructure to support community development and economic growth.
