A newly completed girls’ dormitory at Kalembe Day School marks a significant milestone in improving access to education for female students who travel long distances to attend classes. The facility, funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), will accommodate 48 students, eliminating their need to seek private lodging far from the school grounds.

“This dormitory project demonstrates our commitment to addressing the practical challenges that hinder our children’s education,” said Council Secretary Mwansa Mumba D. “By providing safe accommodation for 48 girls right here on school grounds, we’re not just building structures – we’re building futures. These students can now concentrate on their studies without the burden of seeking private accommodation or walking long distances.”

The project, which includes 24 bunk beds also procured through CDF funding, addresses a long-standing challenge where many pupils were forced to find accommodation near the school due to the considerable distance from their homes. This arrangement often posed both financial and safety concerns for the students and their families.

The facility’s completion is expected to particularly benefit girls from remote areas who previously had to choose between expensive private accommodation or extremely long daily commutes. The project demonstrates how CDF can be effectively utilized to address crucial educational infrastructure needs at the local level.
